SALARY AND FREE AGENCY
This league will have a salary cap, initial player salaries can be found here: www.usatoday.com/sports/nhl/salaries/2000/player/all/
Term will be randomized on random.org under the following specifics
Players under 65 overall: 1-2 years
Players between 65-75 overall: 1-3 years
Players between 76-80 overall: 1-4 years
Players between 81-90 overall: 2-5 years
Players above 90 overall: 3-8 years
In the event of a retirement, the player would simply no longer be in the league, and the contract would be terminated.
The Salary Cap is $50 million, the salary floor is $20 million. Player contracts can be extended throughout the year, based on realism, money, and term relative to age and skill, they will be accepted. This goes for free agency too. Minimum term is 1 year, max 8 years, minimum cap $500k, max $10m. Note also that players with potential but not much ability (i.e. Martin St. Louis) are not going to accept 10 year, $1 million deals. NTCs are assigned to the best players, and can be added to deals made later to sweeten the pot. Based on ice time and team performance, a player could waive if asked, or even request a deal.
ROSTERS AND WAIVERS
Due to difficulties in the game, rosters can only have up to thirty players with no minor league system. Certain players not included in the game will not be initially available, but they will not count on the roster, and instead as prospects. Prospects can be included in trades. If a team needs to clear cap space or a roster spot, they can place a player on waivers to be claimed or cut and released to free agency (note that a player will not want to sign with the same team that cut them.) If a trade is agreed upon but doesn't meet roster requirements, it will not be considered official until the rosters are legal. Be careful making trades that may be unfair, as if a trade is vetoed, your moves to meet roster requirements will stand.
When a player is placed on waivers, any team can claim within twenty four hours. Starting in November, the lowest placed team to submit a claim will be given the player, in October, the lowest placed team from the previous season gets the player.
An important thing to consider is buyout penalties, any contract dropped with a value of $1 million or higher will inflict a cap penalty of half the price for double the term. These players can be waived without being cut to avoid a penalty.
DRAFT
The draft has three rounds, although the third round is not guaranteed based on the depth of the draft class. If trading picks, make sure to trade wisely, not overvaluing 3rd round picks.
TRADING
Trades are certainly allowed and encouraged, but require a longer process. After a trade is agreed upon, one of the GMs must post it in the pending trades section to have it reviewed by trade moderators for fairness and legality. If a manager continually makes bad trades (as well as inactivity) they could lose their GM job. At this point, trades can only consist of three roster players per team, as well as any picks or prospects. Three trade administrators must accept, if three decline the deal is off. Both GMs must accept on the post as well.
SIMULATION
Simulation will usually happen at least once a day and consist of 1-5 days of game action.
MEDIA
Teams can have press conferences to announce captaincy, address recent moves, and anything else and take questions from other forum members. Teams can also spread rumors under the rumor board to spark trade negotiations
Leave any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions in the questions and suggestions board or the comments!
